Algeria ratified the Convention on 9 October 2001, and the Convention entered into force for Algeria on 1 April 2002. On 1 May 2002, Algeria submitted its initial transparency report which indicated that there were areas under Algeria’s jurisdiction or control in which anti-personnel mines are known or suspected to be emplaced. In accordance with Article 5 of the Convention, Algeria undertakes to destroy or ensure the destruction of all anti-personnel mines in these areas as soon as possible but not later than 1 April 2012.
