Burundi ratified the Convention on 22 October 2003, and the Convention entered into force for Burundi on 1 April 2004.  On 8 November 2004, Burundi submitted its initial transparency report which indicated that there were areas under Burundi’s jurisdiction or control in which anti-personnel mines are known or suspected to be emplaced. In accordance with Article 5 of the Convention, Burundi undertakes to destroy or ensure the destruction of all anti-personnel mines in these areas as soon as possible but not later than 1 April 2014
