Colombia ratified the Convention on 6 September 2000, and the Convention entered into force for Colombia on 1 March 2001. On 15 March 2002, Colombia submitted its initial transparency report which indicated that there were areas under Colombia’s jurisdiction or control in which anti-personnel mines are known or suspected to be emplaced. In accordance with Article 5 of the Convention, Colombia undertakes to destroy or ensure the destruction of all anti-personnel mines in these areas as soon as possible but not later than 1 March 2011
