Cyprus ratified the Convention on 17 January 2003, and the Convention entered into force for Cyprus on 1 July 2003. In February of 2004, Cyprus submitted its initial transparency report which indicated that there were areas under Cyprus’ jurisdiction or control in which anti-personnel mines are known or suspected to be emplaced. In accordance with Article 5 of the Convention, Cyprus undertakes to destroy or ensure the destruction of all anti-personnel mines in these areas as soon as possible but not later than 1 July 2013
