Ethiopia acceded to the Convention on 17 December 2004, and the Convention entered into force for Ethiopia on 1 June 2005.
On 5 July 2008, Ethiopia submitted its initial transparency report which indicated that there are areas under Ethiopia’s jurisdiction or control in which anti-personnel mines are known or suspected to be emplaced. In accordance with Article 5 of the Convention, Ethiopia undertakes to destroy or ensure the destruction of all anti-personnel mines in these areas as soon as possible but not later than 1 June 2015.
