Mauritania ratified the Convention on 21 July 2000, and the Convention entered into force for Mauritania on 1 January 2001. On 20 June 2001, Mauritania submitted its initial transparency report which indicated that there were areas under Mauritania’s jurisdiction or control in which anti-personnel mines are known or suspected to be emplaced. In accordance with Article 5 of the Convention, Mauritania undertakes to destroy or ensure the destruction of all anti-personnel mines in these areas as soon as possible but not later than 1 January 2011
