Sudan ratified the Convention on 13 October 2003, and the Convention entered into force for Sudan on 1 April 2004.  On 1 October 2004, Sudan submitted its initial transparency report which indicated that there were areas under Sudan’s jurisdiction or control in which anti-personnel mines are known or suspected to be emplaced.  In accordance with Article 5 of the Convention, Sudan undertakes to destroy or ensure the destruction of all anti-personnel mines in these areas as soon as possible but not later than 1 April 2014.
