Thailand ratified the Convention on 27 November 1998, and the Convention entered into force for Thailand on 1 May 1999. On 10 November 1999, Thailand submitted its initial transparency report which indicated that there were areas under Thailand’s jurisdiction or control in which anti-personnel mines are known or suspected to be emplaced. In accordance with Article 5 of the Convention, Thailand undertakes to destroy or ensure the destruction of all anti-personnel mines in these areas as soon as possible but not later than 1 May 2009.
