Tunisia ratified the Convention on 9 July 1999, and the Convention entered into force for Tunisia on 1 January 2000. On 9 July 2000, Tunisia submitted its initial transparency report which indicated that there were areas under Tunisia’s jurisdiction or control in which anti-personnel mines are known or suspected to be emplaced. In accordance with Article 5 of the Convention, Tunisia undertakes to destroy or ensure the destruction of all anti-personnel mines in these areas as soon as possible but not later than 1 January 2010
