Uganda ratified the Convention on 25 February 1999, and the Convention entered into force for Uganda on 1 August 1999. On 24 May 2002, Uganda submitted its initial transparency report which indicated that there were areas under Uganda’s jurisdiction or control in which anti-personnel mines are known or suspected to be emplaced. In accordance with Article 5 of the Convention, Uganda undertakes to destroy or ensure the destruction of all anti-personnel mines in these areas as soon as possible but not later than 1 August 2009
