Venezuela ratified the Convention on 14 April 1999, and the Convention entered into force for Venezuela on 1 October 1999. On 10 September 2002, Venezuela submitted its initial transparency report which indicated that there were areas under Venezuela’s jurisdiction or control in which anti-personnel mines are known or suspected to be emplaced. In accordance with Article 5 of the Convention, Venezuela undertakes to destroy or ensure the destruction of all anti-personnel mines in these areas as soon as possible but not later than 1 October 2009.
