Zambia ratified the Convention on 23 February 2001, and the Convention entered into force for Zambia on 1 August 2001. On 31 August 2001, Zambia submitted its initial transparency report which indicated that there were areas under Zambia’s jurisdiction or control in which anti-personnel mines are known or suspected to be emplaced. In accordance with Article 5 of the Convention, Zambia undertakes to destroy or ensure the destruction of all anti-personnel mines in these areas as soon as possible but not later than 1 August 2011
