Financing of the ISU

When the States Parties agreed to mandate the establishment of the ISU, they also agreed to cover the costs of the operations of the ISU on a voluntary basis. While the 2010 Tenth Meeting of the States Parties agreed to establish a working group to examine new models for the financing of the ISU, it remains the States Parties’ collective responsibility in 2011 to fund the ISU’s core work plan through the existing funding model. This model features States Parties providing voluntary contributions to fund an annual work plan endorsed by the Coordinating Committee.

On 8 March 2011, the Open-Ended Working Group on ISU Finances met for the first time to carry out its mandate “to examine new models for the financing of the ISU and present recommendations and draft decisions on the most feasible comprehensive financing model for adoption by the 11MSP, so it may be effective from the financial year 2012”.
