Also available is a summary sheet on each topic. These set out the expected scope of the topic to be considered, and may be helpful in suggesting connections between topics, and an overview of what the Standing Committee aims to achieve. They also indicate questions which have arisen in the formulation of the topics during preparatory meetings and discussions - though these are not intended to exclude further questions and issues under that topic.

Each topic specifies an objective. The discussion under each topic will aim to refine that objective, so that at the end of the Meeting it should be clear what the Standing Committee expects to achieve by the Second Meeting of States Parties (SMSP) in September 2000. More specifically, the Meeting should set out what work needs to be done between now and the SMSP to achieve this, and identify who is responsible for ensuring that this work is done. Thus, discussion of each topic should be focused clearly on practical and achievable outcomes which will add value to the Ottawa process. The Standing Committee will meet again at the end of March 2000 to review progress.
