1.     Opening of the meeting

The meeting was opened by its Co-Chairs, Camilio Sanhueza of Chile and Merete Lundemo of Norway.

2.     Overview of the status of implementation of Article 5

Ambassador Juan Martabit of Chile delivered the Co-Chairs’ statement on the status of the implementation of Article 5.

3.     Updates from relevant States Parties on the status of implementation

The following State Parties which have reported the responsibility for the implementation of Article 5 provided updates:

a. States Parties with deadlines in 2009

b. States Parties with deadlines in 2010

c. States Parties with deadlines in 2011

d. States Parties with deadlines in 2012 and beyond

In addition, the following contributed to discussion on the implementation of Article 5:

4.     Update on the process related to requesting extensions on Article 5 obligations

The Co-Chairs provided States Parties in the process of preparing requests for extensions on the fulfillment of Article 5 obligations with the opportunity to provide updates on their work in progress. The following provided updates:

In addition, the Manager of the Implementation Support Unit provided an update on the ISU’s efforts to support the extension process

5.     Cooperation and assistance in clearing mined areas

The Co-Chairs provided an opportunity for updates by States Parties and organizations in a position to provide assistance to others in the process of fulfilling Article 5 obligations. The following provided updates:

The Co-Chairs provided an opportunity for discussion on topics such as means and methods for more rapidly releasing land, policies and practices for canceling suspected hazard areas, and good practices in quality assurance. The following made presentations or shared views:
