GENERAL ASPECTSI.1. IntroductionThe SCE shall carry on the implementation of the mandate entrusted to it at Maputo a year ago. It shall prepare, in a realistic and objective spirit, recommendations for the 2nd meeting of States-Parties, next September at Geneva . I.2. ParticipationIt is open to the various components of the international demining community : States-Parties, States signatories, States concerned by demining, international and regional organizations, NGOs, Research and Development entities, industries concerned, qualified personalities, actors in the field of demining. I.3. Mandate of the SCEThe first session was chiefly devoted to the precise identification of the needs of endusers ; the second one's primary objective shall be to reinforce the information of deminers and deciders on technologies presently or soon available, on the new standards to be implemented, and on the axes of research which to-day appear to be most promising in the medium term.
