The President of the 8MSP introducing a paper intended to remind States Parties of the key elements of the process agreed to at the 7MSP regarding Article 5 extension requests and to inform States Parties of some practical steps the President anticipates taking with respect to this process in 2008.
Chile, in its capacity as Co-Chair of the Standing Committee on Mine Clearance, Mine Risk Education and Mine Action Technologies, introduced the topic of clearing mined areas. In addition, Chile introduced a document summarizing the status of implementation of Article 5 by relevant States Parties. As well, Chile introduced the proposed template for assisting States Parties in requesting an extension under Article 5 of the Convention.
