The 9MSP opening ceremony featured speeches from Micheline Calm-Rey, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland, and Christine Beerli, Vice-President of the ICRC. There was a screening of the ICRC Special Fund for Disabled film on the different phases of rehabilitation and socio-economic reintegration of persons with disabilities. A final speech was made by ICBL Youth Ambassador and landmine survivor Ms Song Kosal.
The 9MSP was officially opened by His Royal Highness, Prince Mired Raad of Jordan, President of the 8MSP.
The meeting acclaimed His Excellency Ambassador Jürg Streuli of Switzerland as President of the 9MSP.
In keeping with past practices brief messages were delivered or statements made by the following: the Secretary General of the United Nations, delivered by Sergei Ordzhonikidze, Director General of the UN Office; Nobel Peace Prize laureate Jody Williams, delivered by Sylvie Brigot, Executive Director of the ICBL; and, President of the Council of the Foundation of the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) Cornelio Sommaruga.

In keeping with past practice, the eight outgoing Co-Chairs of the Standing Committees were elected Vice-Presidents of the 9MSP: Cambodia, Canada, Germany, Kenya, Lithuania, New Zealand, Peru, Serbia.
Mr Rémy Friedman of Switzerland was confirmed as Secretary General of the 9MSP.
