Senegal ratified the Convention on 24 September 1998, and the Convention entered into force for Senegal on 1 March 1999.
On 1 September 1999, Senegal submitted its initial transparency report which indicated that there were areas under Senegal’s jurisdiction or control in which anti-personnel mines are known or suspected to be emplaced. In accordance with Article 5 of the Convention, Senegal undertakes to destroy or ensure the destruction of all anti-personnel mines in these areas as soon as possible but not later than 1 March 2009.
