Niger ratified the Convention on 23 March 1999, and the Convention entered into force for Niger on 1 September 1999. On 12 September 2002, Niger submitted its initial transparency report which indicated that there were areas under Niger’s jurisdiction or control in which anti-personnel mines are known or suspected to be emplaced. In accordance with Article 5 of the Convention, Niger undertakes to destroy or ensure the destruction of all anti-personnel mines in these areas as soon as possible but not later than 1 September 2009.

Stockpile Destruction (Article 4)

In its initial transparency report submitted on 31 March 2003, Niger reported stockpiled anti-personnel mines under its ownership or possession or under its jurisdiction or control.  In its transparency report submitted on 26 May 2009, Niger reported that it had completed the destruction of all stockpiled anti-personnel mines. In total, Niger reported having destroyed 1,885 mines.
