Zimbabwe ratified the Convention on 18 June 1998, and the Convention entered into force for Zimbabwe on 1 March 1999. Stockpile Destruction (Article 4)In its initial transparency report submitted on 11 January 2000, Zimbabwe reported stockpiled anti-personnel mines under its ownership or possession or under its jurisdiction or control. In its transparency report submitted on 4 April 2001, Zimbabwe reported that it had completed the destruction of all stockpiled anti-personnel mines. In total, Zimbabwe reported having destroyed 4,092 mines. Mine Clearance (Article 5)In its initial transparency report, Zimbabwe reported areas under its jurisdiction or control in which anti-personnel mines are known or suspected to be emplaced. In accordance with Article 5 of the Convention, Zimbabwe undertakes to destroy or ensure the destruction of all anti-personnel mines in these areas as soon as possible but not later than 1 March 2009. On 28 September 2010, Zimbabwe submitted a request to extend its deadline. The request was granted at the 10MSP, and the new deadline is set for 1 January 2013.
