Fifth Review Conference

The Siem Reap-Angkor Summit on a Mine-Free World 

is the name given to the Fifth Review Conference (5RC) of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Antipersonnel Mines and on Their Destruction. 

On 24 November 2023, at the Twenty-First Meeting of the States Parties, it was agreed that the Convention's Fifth Review Conference would be held in Siem Reap, Cambodia from 25 to 29 November 2024.

In addition, the States Parties agreed to elect Cambodian Senior Minister H.E. Ly Thuch, First Vice President of the Cambodia Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority as President of the Fifth Review Conference.

Upon his election, H.E. Ly Thuch called upon the international community to seize the opportunity presented by the Review Conference to promote universalization of the Convention, implement Article 5 and assist mine victims, all which are part of Cambodia's priorities for its presidency.

In addition to the Summit or 5RC, Cambodia will preside over the following meetings in 2024:

  • Ninth International Pledging Conference in March 2024 (tbc), Geneva | Photos, videos

  • First Preparatory Meeting for the Review Conference. 20 June 2024 
  • Second Preparatory Meeting for the Review Conference. 18 September 2024 

The purpose of the Review Conference is to: review the operation and status of the Convention; consider the need for and the interval between further Meetings of the States Parties; take decisions on submissions of States Parties as provided for in Article 5; and, adopt, if necessary, conclusions related to the implementation of the Convention.

The Siem Reap-Angkor Summit will be held at the highest possible level.
