
First Preparatory Meeting

The meeting was opened by the President-Designate of the Third Review Conference, H.E. Henrique Banze, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mozambique.
The meeting was asked to adopt its agenda.
The President-Designate shared initial ideas regarding the development of a draft programme for the Third Review Conference.
The meeting was notified that, in keeping with past practice, the States Parties serving as Co-Chairs at the time of the Review Conference would be elected Vice-Presidents, namely Belgium, Costa Rica, Japan, Indonesia, Poland, New Zealand, Austria, Ecuador and Norway.
The meeting adopted cost estimates for the Second Preparatory Meeting and the Third Review Conference.
The President-Designate combined items #6 and #7, which provided delegations with the opportunity to exchange of views on the preparation of a review of the operation and status of the Convention and on the Maputo Action Plan.

Delegations exchanged on views on a post-Third Review Conference programme of meetings.
The President-Designate combined items #8 and #9, which provided delegations with the opportunity to exchange of views on the preparation of a post-Third Review Conference programme of meetings and on a political declaration to be adopted at the Third Review Conference.

The following delegations shared views on these matters: European Union, Slovenia, ICBL, Canada, Thailand, Algeria, Jordan, Norway, Mexico, Ireland, Japan, Belarus, Colombia, Australia, ICRC, Switzerland, and Greece.
Mozambique provided an update on logistical and administrative matters for the Third Review Conference.
Two delegations took the floor to share views on other matters : Tajikistan and Algeria.
The meeting adopted its report. In closing the meeting, the President-Designate indicated that the next step is to take the inputs that have been provided and to start to develop concrete proposals. The President-Designate indicated that, if delegations have additional input, they should provide it to the Permanent Representative of Mozambique to the United Nations (Geneva) or to the ISU.
